"Why do you got to get killed? You ain't so little as mice. I didn't bounce you hard" (85).
Lennie and his pup
Plot Summary: Lennie is alone in the barn stroking his dead puppy. Lennie talks to himself, asking why the animal had to die. Lennie starts to bury the dead puppy, worrying that George will be angry and not let him raise rabbits on their future farm. Curley's wife enters the barn and discovers the dead puppy. She consoles Lennie about its death. She decides to let Lennie stroke her hair, since he likes to touch soft things. Lennie becomes really excited about it and holds on to her hair too tight. Lennie panics and clamps his big hands over her, shaking her until her body goes limp. Lennie has broken her neck. Lennie realizes what he has done, and leaves the barn with his dead pup and goes to the clearing where George told him to go. George and Candy come into the barn and find the body. Candy goes and tells Curley what has happened to his wife. Curley demands that they find Lennie and kill him.
My Response: I was really sad and surprised of what happened in this chapter. I wasn’t expecting Lennie to kill his pup and Curley's wife. Even though Lennie can't control the actions he does, I never thought he would do this kind of thing. It wasn't his fault, because he can't control his own strength and the actions he does when he is trying to be gentle. I feel bad for George because his hopes and dreams for the future are now lost.
